WARDOGS Drill Guide — Repair Tools, Unlocks & How to Use Them
"Drill" in WARDOGS means repair tools, not construction: the Support role levels up through hammering, repairing and building, and the drill line is its signature equipment. This guide covers every drill, when each unlocks, how to use them, and why repairing beats rebuying.
The Drill Line at a Glance
| Tool | Unlock | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Light Drill | Support level 1 | The first handheld repair tool — usable on friendly vehicles from very early. |
| Heavy Drill | Later Support progression | Battery-powered (~6.9 kg) — repairs noticeably faster than the Light Drill. |
| Drill Rig | Support + build requirements | A large deployable repair emplacement — requires the Large Hammer and Fuel Supplies to build. |
| Repair Station | Built structure | A FOB structure that repairs vehicles using Mechanical Supplies instead of a handheld drill. |
Why Repair Instead of Rebuy
Vehicles cost real in-match cash every spawn, and losing a tank hurts your bank (see the vehicles guide). Repairing a damaged friendly vehicle is usually much cheaper than buying a new one. It is also one of the core Support XP loops: hammer hits pay XP while repairing (1 XP normal, 7 XP on the yellow critical marker), so every repair session levels your Support track at the same time.
How to Use a Drill
- Equip the drill (Light or Heavy) and approach a damaged friendly vehicle.
- Hold the repair action on the vehicle — watch for the yellow critical marker, where hammer hits pay 7 XP instead of 1.
- Keep the area safe: a repair crew in the open is an easy double kill for a sniper or a mortar round. Repair from cover or with the vehicle between you and the likely enemy direction.
- Check the vehicle’s condition first — repairing a vehicle the enemy is about to destroy again wastes your time and supplies.
Drill Rig vs Repair Station
For field repairs the Drill Rig is the heavy option: it is a deployable emplacement, so it repairs faster than handheld tools but it needs a Large Hammer and Fuel Supplies to build — plan the logistics before you commit. At a FOB, the Repair Station does the same job as a permanent structure but consumes Mechanical Supplies instead of a player holding a drill. FOB supplies split into four types — Build, Ammo, Fuel and Mechanical — so a Repair Station is only useful if your FOB actually stocks Mechanical Supplies (see the gameplay guide for the supply system).
Repair XP & Support Leveling
Repairing is part of the fastest Support leveling loop in the game: build or repair at a FOB for hammer XP, deliver supply crates, and destroy enemy vehicles. Support unlocks follow: Lv 1 Light Drill, Lv 5 RPG-7, Lv 7/8 Large Hammer — and the upgraded Support class is the one that places mortars and anti-air guns at FOBs. Full XP numbers are on the classes page.
Repair Tips
- Repair between fights, not during them — a tank at 60% is still a tank; a repair crew killed is zero tanks.
- Prioritize transports: a working APC pays its driver for every spawn, so keeping it alive is an investment in the team’s logistics.
- Vehicles auto-repair and refuel at the main base — drive back if the damage is not urgent, and save the supplies.
- Pair with a spotter: a recon player watching the approach while you repair prevents most ambushes.
