Known Error Codes

Failed to Authenticate with Online Services

This login error spiked during launch-week server strain. It is usually not your machine: when the auth service is overloaded, retrying after a few minutes works. If it persists, restart Steam, verify game files, and avoid VPNs — region checks can fail through a VPN.

Error 1628505091

This code spiked in searches during launch week, but BULKHEAD has not documented an official meaning for it. Community reports tie it to connection and login trouble rather than your hardware. The working order of fixes: check the server status (most reports come in waves during outages), verify game files, repair Easy Anti-Cheat, then restart Steam and retry. If it persists with no reported outage, report it in the official Discord with a screenshot — launch-week reports are how undocumented codes get patched.

Join Timed Out & Failed to Connect

"Join timed out" and "failed to connect to the server in a reasonable time" are connection errors, not install errors — the game could not reach a match server before giving up. During launch week this usually meant the servers were at capacity, not that your PC was the problem. Work through this order:

1. Check the official X/Discord and server status first — if servers are strained, retry after a few minutes.
2. Restart Steam and the game, then verify game files.
3. Avoid VPNs — region checks and matchmaking can fail through a VPN connection.
4. Allow WARDOGS and Easy Anti-Cheat through Windows Firewall, or test with the firewall temporarily disabled.
5. If it happens on every match even with healthy servers, repair EAC and check your router/NAT — some ISPs block the peer ports the matchmaker uses.

Unable to Launch

"Unable to launch WARDOGS" almost always traces to Easy Anti-Cheat, missing files or GPU drivers. Repair EAC (below), verify files, update GPU drivers, and run Steam as administrator. If it started after a patch, verify files first — UE5 titles frequently fail to launch on a half-downloaded update.

Repair Easy Anti-Cheat

1. Browse to the WARDOGS install folder and open the EasyAntiCheat folder.
2. Run EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe (or the game’s EAC launcher) and choose "Repair".
3. Reboot, then launch from Steam as administrator.
4. If it still fails, disable conflicting overlays (Discord, RivaTuner, GeForce Experience) and retry.

General Crash Fixes

• Verify game files: Steam → WARDOGS → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity.
• Update GPU drivers and Windows — UE5 titles are sensitive to old drivers.
• Close background apps: the game is CPU-heavy; OBS and browsers eat frames and cause stutters.
• Check storage: the install needs 50 GB and headroom for updates.
